What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a scientifically-backed form of natural treatment that provides lasting relief for millions of people worldwide each year.
Acupuncture involves inserting very thin needles into specific points on the body. This practice is based on the idea that stimulating these points helps trigger the body's natural healing processes, such as reducing pain and improving mood.
In the U.S., acupuncture started gaining popularity in the 1970s and has been supported by various health organizations. Today, it is recognized for its potential benefits by institutions like Johns Hopkins University.
Millions of people worldwide have found increased wellness through acupuncture. Why not give it a try and see how it might help you?

Getting to the Root of Your Symptoms.
Acupuncture has been shown to have a wide array of benefits. Because it is a whole body focused therapy, you are getting to the root cause of your symptoms, not just suppressing them with medication. Studies indicate acupuncture offers multiple benefits, including pain relief and reduced stress.
Acupuncture is thought to activate the nervous system, increase natural pain-relieving compounds, improve blood flow, and support immune function.
It is widely used globally as both an independent therapy and alongside conventional treatments. Many find it effective for enhancing overall wellness.
How Does Acupuncture Work?
Acupuncture activates the body's innate healing processes by enhancing blood circulation, which delivers vital oxygen, nutrients, and immune components to support health and tissue recovery.
By creating minor tissue stimulation, it engages the nervous, immune, and hormone systems to promote repair.
The practice also encourages the release of natural pain-relieving compounds such as endorphins, contributing to pain management and improved wellness.

A Whole-Body Approach to Healing
Traditional Chinese Medicine treats the whole person, not just a list of symptoms. It's about balance—within your body, your emotions, your environment, and even your lifestyle. Whether you’re seeking relief from pain, stress, fatigue, or chronic illness, the goal is always the same: to restore balance and support long-term wellness, not just to mask discomfort.
Acupuncture works best when it’s seen as part of a broader, holistic plan. That’s why we encourage all new patients to be open to the full diagnostic process and the possibility of incorporating other supportive therapies when needed.
Acupuncture Is Just One Part of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Chinese medicine is a personalized and precision medicine which has been around for over thousands of years. Chinese medicine diagnoses through the symptoms of the patient described and appearances (eye, skin and tongue color as well as pulse), then seeks to address the overall systemic problem with a focus on preventing any potential adverse effects
If you're new to acupuncture, you might be expecting a few needles placed where it hurts and then quick relief. While acupuncture can be a powerful tool for addressing pain and other conditions, it's important to understand that it’s just one part of a much larger and more comprehensive system—Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Acupuncture Is a Tool, Not the Whole Toolbox
Acupuncture is one of several treatment methods used in TCM. Other therapies may include herbal medicine, cupping, dietary therapy, massage, and exercise and movement practices like tai chi or qigong. These all work together to support your body’s natural ability to heal.
When you come in for acupuncture, you're not just receiving needles—you’re receiving care that’s rooted in thousands of years of whole-body medicine. To get the best results, acupuncture must be applied as part of a thoughtful, personalized treatment plan.
Why a Full Exam Is So Important?
In TCM, we treat people—not just symptoms. That means we need to get to know your entire health picture before starting treatment. During your first visit, we’ll ask questions about your sleep, digestion, stress levels, lifestyle, and more. We’ll also take a look at your tongue and feel your pulses, which help us understand how your energy (Qi) is moving through your body.
This thorough exam helps us determine the underlying cause of your symptoms—not just where they show up. For example, two people might both have headaches, but they could be caused by very different imbalances. That’s why the treatment approach is always tailored to your unique body and needs.

It’s Not Just About Where It Hurts
It’s a common misconception that acupuncture needles are only placed where you're feeling pain. In reality, acupuncture points are chosen based on how energy flows through specific pathways in the body, called meridians. These points may be far from the area of discomfort but are connected through the body’s internal systems.
So if you come in with back pain, don’t be surprised if we place needles in your hands, feet, or even ears. Every point has a purpose based on your personalized diagnosis.
Your First Visit Is the First Step Toward True Healing
Acupuncture is powerful, but it’s not a quick fix or a one-size-fits-all solution. When you understand that it’s part of a complete system of care—rooted in traditional Chinese medicine—you open the door to much deeper healing.
It is one of the reason's we offer it in conjunction with Functional Medicine-A complete system for looking at the body as a whole.
We're here to guide you through the process, explain every step, and help you reconnect with your body’s natural ability to heal.

Acupuncture FAQ's:
Does acupuncture hurt? We hear this question in clinic very often! One of the big misconceptions about acupuncture, is that because there are needles involved, it must hurt. However, acupuncture is practically painless! The needles we use are hair-thin – and first time patients will often express their surprise when they realize how different acupuncture feels to what they expected. The sensations a patient can experience with the needles may be numbness, tingling, distension, heaviness, warmth, or a radiating feeling. All of these sensations are considered desirable sensations in terms of the treatment – often they show us that we’ve achieved the response we want from the body. Any sensations tend to dissipate within a few seconds, leaving the patient in a very calm state – so much so they often fall asleep! Most people who come in, even those who are scared of needles, find that acupuncture is a comfortable, relaxing, and enjoyable experience.
How many acupuncture sessions will I require? This can be a difficult question to answer, as there is no “one size fits all” in acupuncture. With each patient, I will come up with a unique, individual, and holistic treatment plan based on your symptoms and health history. For a loose guideline based on my own clinical experience, patients with acute conditions (something severe and sudden in onset) may only require 3-6 treatments to heal, whereas chronic conditions (long-developing symptoms) may take longer. I tend to find that many patients find that acupuncture benefits them in someway almost immediately, and many feel things such as reduction in pain, stress-relief, increased energy, and better sleep after only a few treatments! It is important to note that every person is different, and acupuncture is such a great medicine as it takes this into consideration.
Is acupuncture safe? Yes. Because acupuncture treatment is drug-free, you avoid the risk of drugs which can cause side-effects or dependency. During each acupuncture session your doctor will adjust the treatment according to your progress, so you receive constant monitoring of any changes.
How Long Are Visits? Total Visit time is one hour. Acupuncture Treatments are usually 40 mins. acupuncture treatment is drug-free, you avoid the risk of drugs which can cause side-effects or dependency. During each acupuncture session your doctor will adjust the treatment according to your progress, so you receive constant monitoring of any changes.
What can I expect from acupuncture? Most people are surprised at the depth of relaxation, the intensity of energy which occurs, and sense of well-being and healing which occurs from the rebalancing of energy. Relief from symptoms may be felt immediately or gradually in the following days (or weeks) depending on the severity of symptoms and how long you’ve had it. You will find you will look forward to treatment for the many benefits that are received from acupuncture. Many who have lived with their condition for so many years believe they will just have to make do. Others live with pain thinking that “someday” it will go away. Acupuncture has succeeded in many cases where other treatments have not. We have seen people achieve complete relief of decades old problems after just a few visits.
